Vaping is pretty popular, there’s no denying it. However, while many don’t bother connecting it to cigarettes too much, you have a lot of others that actually look at vaping as a healthier alternative to smoking. How true is this, though? Well, there is certainly quite a lot of truth to it, but in order to understand it better, and see why you’ll want to consider vaping instead of smoking, we should first take a look at smoking itself. It’s definitely harmful, but just how harmful it is certainly is worth giving a second thought.
What Kind Of Effects Does Smoking Have On Your Body?
Smoking conventional tobacco means that you’re allowing a host of chemicals to enter your body. When compared to vaping products, such as marijuana vaporizer, many of them are harmful, and they have really bad effects on you and your organism.
To begin with, the poisons from the tar found in cigarettes will enter your bloodstream. This results in thicker blood and significantly increases the chances of a clot forming. The blood pressure and heart rate are also increased, and your arteries are narrowed, which results in less oxygen-rich blood getting to your organs.
Then, you’ve got the fact that smoke damages your heart, and consequently, the blood circulation. This increases the risk of coronary heart disease, a stroke, a heart attack, or cerebrovascular disease.
The nicotine and smoke result in carbon monoxide that makes the heart work faster. That carbon monoxide can also cause long term heart damage, too. In fact, you’ll find that smoking doubles your risk of a heart attack. However, if you were to stop smoking, and switch to vaping, that risk reduces after a while.
Next in line are the lungs, which are another major organ that can be severely affected by smoking.
You may think colds, coughs, and asthma are an issue, but that’s just the start. Smoking might lead to fatal diseases such as lung cancer, emphysema, and pneumonia. In fact, 84% of lung cancer deaths are caused by smoking, and 83% of COPD deaths as well. Stopping to smoke is a way to slow down the progression of this kind of disease.
Smoking does impact your brain, too. The risk of a stroke is increased by at least 50%, and that stroke can easily result in brain damage, or even worse, death. Smoking increases the chances of developing a brain aneurysm, which is a bulge in a blood vessel.
It’s usually caused by a weakness of the wall of said vessel. If it ruptures, or bursts, it can lead to a subarachnoid hemorrhage, which in turn causes extensive brain damage, and sometimes death.
The throat and mouth aren’t left unaffected either. Bad breath and stained teeth are just the beginning of it, you have much more serious issues such as gum diseases, or even damage to your sense of taste.
The most severe issue, though? You have an increased risk of cancer in your tongue, lips, throat and voice box. Actually, over 93% of cancers in part of the throat are caused by smoking.
Like other issues, you could potentially reduce the risks if you were to quit smoking, but that’s going to take a while.
How Is Vaping Healthier?
First and foremost, regular tobacco cigarettes have over 7,000 chemicals. Many of them are toxic, and there’s no doubt that vape will expose you to a lot less of them. While vaping is certainly not completely harmless, especially when you compare it to completely quitting, it is significantly healthier than conventional tobacco cigarettes.
The other thing is that smoking and vaping are fundamentally different. When you’re smoking, you have a rolling paper, you have tobacco, and you have a host of chemicals that are set on fire and inhaled.
The smoke, combined with those chemicals, is what causes the most damage. However, when you’re vaping, you only have a liquid that is heated to a degree that causes evaporation.
You’re inhaling the vapor, and there’s no smoke. This is a lot healthier, and basically negates most (if not all) of the harmful effects of cigarettes.
Do note, though, that some e-cigarettes also have small amounts of nicotine. This is why they’re a good middle ground if you’re considering giving up cigarettes, but you don’t want to quit everything completely, all at once.
To conclude, vaping is certainly healthier than smoking. It’s not completely harmless, but it’s fundamentally different and both the liquid and the process means that you’ll have little to no harmful poisons entering your body and causing issues with everything from your heart, to your brain and lungs.
