What is Kratom?
Kratom, which goes by the name Mitragyna Speciosa in the science community, is an herb that belongs to the Rubiaceae family. It grows naturally in the marshy regions of Southeast Asian countries. This herb/plant can grow up to be quite tall (approx 100 feet).
The reason behind its growing popularity, particularly in the US is due to its ability to act like an occasional recreational herb all the while offering a bunch of therapeutic effects. For one, it’s a possible tool for mild pain management. It can also energize you and dull sensations of anxiety and depression. Certain types of kratom can make you more optimistic.
Traditionally, the natives would either chew the leaves or use the powdered form as tea preparation. It allowed them to work hard out in the fields. Its earliest usage is largely unknown but some accounts suggest it to be as old as the beginning of the 19th century. The folk medicine made heavy usage of kratom as part of holistic medicine.
How to Take It?
There are a bunch of methods when it comes to getting kratom inside your system. All of them are pretty straightforward and simple. This post highlights the most common/popular methods. You can pick any based on your preferences.
Method #1 – Toss n’ Wash
As the name gives it away, this one is pretty simple and the most popular one (for good reason). Basically, you can grab your kratom powder dose, place it on a spoon, and have a glass of water ready by your side. As soon as you toss the dose, you wash it down quickly with water. Some people may use juice or some sweet beverage too. Remember to avoid pairing it with any other substance though like alcohol. You can get your preferred kratom off of Kratom Crazy.
Method #2 – Kratom Teas
Preparation-wise, kratom tea is just like any other regular/green tea. Kratom tea recipes are pretty simple. They don’t require a whole lot of tools (except a strainer to separate the leaves). Below are some of the most popular recipes floating around the internet you can try –
l Kratom Lemon Honey Tea
For this recipe, you’re going to need half a liter of water. Pour it in a pot and bring it to boil. Lower the blame and let it slowly simmer for a good 15 minutes. Take half a lemon juice along with honey (as per taste) and add them both to the water. Let it simmer for a couple of more minutes. It is better to add honey and lemon towards the end so their goodness is not destroyed by the heat.
Remove the pot, strain the tea, and enjoy it!
l Kratom Masala Chai
For this recipe, you are going to need water and milk (use non-dairy if you’re lactose sensitive or intolerant). You’ll also need half a teaspoon shredded ginger and cinnamon powder (each) and quarter teaspoon star anise powder and clove powder (each). You’re also going to need a pinch of nutmeg. Additionally, you can grab honey as per your taste. If you want, you can go for some other sweetener of your choice.
How to prepare:
Take half a liter of water, combine all the spices and herbs, and bring it to boil. After that add milk and let it boil again. Be sure to keep an eye on the mix as milk can boil over within a fraction of seconds if you’re not careful enough.
Lower the heat and let it simmer. Now add your kratom dose. Once it has boiled, let it simmer for 20 minutes approx. Towards the last couple of minutes, take the honey and add it so that it can melt nicely.
Take the mix off the stove. Strain and enjoy.
l Kratom Mint Honey
For this, you’re going to need your kratom dose and a tsp of mint leaves. If you do not have easy access to mint tea leaves, you can also go for a teabag. You’ll need a sweetener like honey and half a lemon. This step is optional. Go for it only if you do not mind an added citrusy kick to your drink.
To prepare kratom mint honey, start by boiling the water. Once it starts to boil, turn the heat down and let it slowly simmer. Take the kratom along with mint leaves and toss it into the water. Let this mixture simmer for a good twenty minutes. After that add lemon and honey and heat it for an additional few good minutes. Remove, pour, and enjoy your kratom mint honey tea.
l Kratom Chamomile Tea
To prepare this, you’re going to take half-liter water and bring it to boil followed by slow simmering. Add your kratom dosage and simmer for 15 minutes. Now take around one tsp of dried chamomile flower and add it to a separate pot.
Alternatively, you can use chamomile tea bags too.
Now strain the kratom team and pour it over chamomile flowers. Let the mixture steep for a good 7 minutes. Add any sweetener of your choice (honey or sugar).
l Kratom Yerba Mate
Take half a cup of yerba mate tea, cat’s claw (although this is totally optional) along with kratom powder. Put all three into a French press. Add just a little bit of water (more like splash) to moisten the leaves.
Strain the tea, add sweetener and enjoy.
In a separate pot, bring water to boil. After it has boiled, let it cool down a little so it’s hot and not boiling. Pour it over the mixture. Strain and enjoy it!
Method #3 – Add to Yogurt
This is an excellent strategy to get kratom into your system first thing in the morning. This is particularly good if you are using this herb for energy purposes much like coffee. Not only is it going to mask the bitter taste of kratom, but it’s also a great way to kick start your day.
Method #4 – Add to Protein Shakes
Yet another excellent strategy, the only difference between adding kratom to yogurt and that to shakes is that you’ll be consuming it with far fewer calories. Many users feel it allows them to work harder in the gym when they consume kratom with protein shakes.
Method #5 – As Capsules
By far, the simplest way of ingesting kratom; capsules are a little on the pricier side of the spectrum. For good reasons too! The only drawback is that if your dose is higher or lower than what the capsules carry, you may not be able to achieve the desired effects. They are quite convenient though.
