As of today, I have been blogging for NINE YEARS.
That’s like 150 in blog years.
When you consider that most of the blogs I come across these days were started within the last 2-3 years, I feel like the old lady on the block. Only I don’t yell at you to get off my lawn.
Blogging has changed so much over the years. And so has my blog. I wish I had screenshots of all the iterations of my blog because it looks nothing like it did on August 23, 2007.
I spent the first many months just writing to keep up with my family and friends. I barely told anyone about it and didn’t write in a particularly “bloggy” style.
And then something happened. My former platform, Blogger, used to have the Blog of the Day. And one day I clicked on a title called Clever Girl Goes Blog because I thought that was a clever title and I wanted to know more about the girl behind that blog. So I started reading. And reading. And reading.
And I realized that I was doing this whole blog thing ALL WRONG.
I started to be more myself. To write more the way I wanted to read. To share thoughts about things instead of just what I’d done over the weekend.
And then I started reading other blogs and getting to know people.
It was awesome.
It was like everything I never knew I wanted and I loved it.
Somewhere along the way, after swearing I would NEVER, I signed up for Facebook. And a few months later when I swore I would NEVER join Twitter, I started tweeting.
A whole new world was opened up to me and I felt like I had things to say and people actually seemed to want to read it.
And it was wonderful.
And it still is.
I don’t write every day. I usually want to, but it’s just too much to keep up with between writing and editing and planning the social media sharing. Oh, and also living in the first place to have stuff to write about.
But I still love it.
And I will probably be blogging ten years after it goes out of style. Because that’s just how I am.
Old will become new again and I will still be here. Celebrating my 30th blogiversary.
So much has happened in the last nine years. I’ve changed addresses. I’ve changed job titles (though not really jobs), traveled. Fallen in love and out of love and in love again. I’ve met celebrities and tried new products and had a million adventures.
And it’s awesome.
I was going to put together a compilation of some of my favorite posts, but with like 1600 to choose from, it’s really hard.
So if you have any favorites, could you just let me know? That would be an awesome blogiversary present for me.
As if you being here isn’t enough. Which it is. Because I love you. All of you. You are amazing and I thank you for reading!
