Ah, the fall.
The leaves begin to change. The morning air is crisp and fresh. The sounds of football linger on the breeze.
And TV gets good again.
The past few seasons have been a little lackluster in terms of new offerings, but this year promises to bring about some fun, exciting, and most of all creative new series. I hope a few of them live up to their hype. And potential.
Take a gander at some of the new fall shows, which ones I’ll be watching and which ones I wouldn’t see if someone threatened to make me a member of the Kardashian family. There’s a run down on my returning favorites, too.
(Oh, and I’m only talking about the regular networks since we don’t have any of the “good” channels.)
Here it is. Your Fall TV Checklist:
2 Broke Girls (CBS), Mondays at 8:30pm–Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later. Someone finally turned my life into a sitcom. Looks intriguing. I’ll probably give it a shot.
Hart of Dixie (CW), Mondays at 9pm–Big city doctor moves out to the country to be a small town doctor. No thanks. Don’t get me wrong, I miss Northern Exposure, too, but Rachel Bilson can never be Joel Fleischman.
Terra Nova (Fox), Mondays at 8pm–Never even heard of it. But since it’s on Fox, I’m guessing the execs over there have already plotted its early cancellation. Skip.
The Playboy Club (NBC), Mondays at 10pm–Not on your life. I predict this will be the season’s first ax.
Last Man Standing (ABC), Tuesdays at 8pm–Tim Allen’s funny, but…meh. Not interested. Next.
Man Up (ABC), Tuesdays at 8:30pm–Actually looks pretty funny. I’ll check out the first ep or two.
Ringer (CW), Tuesdays at 9pm–I watched the first episode last week and it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Which isn’t to say it was good. I’d watch it if nothing else was on.
New Girl (Fox), Tuesdays at 9pm–Oh, look. Something else IS on. I have a bit of a girl crush on Zooey Deschanel, so you can bet I’ll be watching this one!
Unforgettable (CBS), Tuesdays at 10pm–I already forgot what it’s about. Skip.
H8R (CW), Wednesdays at 8pm–I was actually thinking about watching this show where average people get to confront celebrities they “hate.” Until I found out they’re trying to be all “hate sucks and you shouldn’t do it.” Never mind.
The X Factor (Fox), Wednesdays at 8pm–Does America REALLY need another singing show? Apparently, yes. Yes we do. I’ll probably flip to this while the ABC comedies are on commercial breaks.
Up All Night (NBC), Wednesdays at 8pm–Watched the first episode last night and wasn’t impressed. At all. Had all the makings of a charming little show, but it felt really overdone. I might feel differently, though, if I’d ever had a kid that had kept me up all night. Maybe. But I doubt it.
Free Agents (NBC), Wednesdays at 8:30pm–Again. Not impressed. It’s not terrible, but it’s utterly forgettable with characters that don’t make a lasting impression.
I Hate My Teenage Daughter (Fox), Wednesdays at 9:30pm–I’m not even going to discuss this one. Skip.
Revenge (ABC), Wednesdays at 10pm–I’m not that excited about it. I think Wednesdays will be my go-to-bed-at-a-reasonable-hour night.
Charlies’ Angels (ABC), Thursdays at 8pm–I loved the original. I surely will not love this remake. No thanks.
How to Be a Gentleman (CBS), Thursdays at 8:30pm–I can’t stand Kevin Dillon. Pass.
Person of Interest (CBS), Thursdays at 9pm–Michael Emerson in my TV? Yes, please!
The Secret Circle (CW), Thursdays at 9pm–No way. I’ll be watching Michael Emerson!
Whitney (NBC), Thursdays at 9:30pm–It doesn’t even look funny to me. Skip.
Prime Suspect (NBC), Thursdays at 10pm–You know what’s been missing from NBC’s schedule? Cop shows. We really, REALLY need another one. Like a hole in the head. Love Maria Bello, but…Oh, who am I kidding? There’s nothing else on during the time slot. I’ll probably watch.
A Gifted Man (CBS), Fridays at 8pm–Eeeek!! I’ve been waiting and waiting and waiting forever for this show! The darling and infinitely talented PATRICK WILSON gets a network series! Playing a doctor! And the lovely Jennifer Ehle (you’ll remember her as Elizabeth Bennet in the only version of Pride and Prejudice that’s truly worth watching) co-stars.
Grimm (NBC), Fridays at 9pm–Based on the Grimm fairy tales, but set in real life Portland, Oregon and centered around a homicide detective. I’m going to try it out. We’ll see. Even if NBC did show a colossal lack of faith by premiering it in TV’s Death Slot.
Once Upon a Time (ABC), Sundays at 8pm–This is the other new show I’m most excited about. A bit similar to the premise behind Grimm, although this series focuses on fairy tales in general and not just the villains. And it looks great.
Pan Am (ABC), Sundays at 10pm–Um…no.
Castle (ABC), Mondays at 10pm
Hawaii Five-O (CBS), Mondays at 10pm
90210 (CW), Tuesdays at 8pm–It’s a guilty pleasure. Emphasis on the guilty.
The Middle, Modern Family, Happy Endings (ABC), Wednesdays
The Big Bang Theory (CBS), Thursdays at 8pm
Community (NBC), Thursdays at 8pm
The Office (NBC), Thursdays at 9pm–I worried about The Office without Michael Scott. I love James Spader. I am no longer worried.
Fringe (Fox), Fridays at 9pm–Need to catch up on last season before I decide if I’ll keep watching.
Desperate Housewives (ABC), Sundays at 9pm–I love this show. I’ve always loved this show. Sad it’s ending, but I know it’s time.
So…what shows have already claimed space in your DVR??
Oh, and this Sunday is the Emmys! I WILL be doing my regular play-by-play, so be sure to check back Sunday night.
And yes. I AM aware that I watch WAY too much TV…
