Last week was rough. For a lot of reasons. And a wise friend suggested that what I really needed was a Dr. Pepper and some sunshine.
He didn’t know just how right he was.
You see, one of my Project 52 goals is to give up soda for 30 days.
For some reason, I picked June. Which turned out to be the single most stressful month so far this year, plus full of June Gloom, which means we don’t usually see a glimpse of sun until at least three in the afternoon.
I really DO need Dr. Pepper and sunshine.
But I’m not giving up. I’m twelve days in. I can survive the month soda-free. Of course, I might have to check myself into a mental hospital before the end, but hey. Whatever it takes.
I also decided to go 10 days without fast food. Which, to a lot of people, seems really simple. But for a lifestyle like mine, that involves HOURS on the freeway, leaving before the sun comes up and often not getting home until it’s pretty much bedtime, I don’t have a lot of extra minutes to cook. If not for a quick stop at some drive thru or another, there are many days when I would pretty much starve.
Well, I managed it. In fact, I’ve now gone TWELVE days without fast food. And I’m feeling pretty good.
Although I will admit, there were a few nights that I just didn’t get around to eating anything. I’m still trying to figure out which is worse.
And, finally, I started a THIRD goal this week: Read the Chronicles of Narnia. Because work was chaotic, it took four days or so to get through The Magician’s Nephew. Several people told me to read them in publication order instead of chronological and I didn’t listen. Until I was about halfway through The Magician’s Nephew and realized that I really did want to experience them the “right” way. So I finished that one, then read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in one day, and skipped The Horse and His Boy to read Prince Caspian.
I really can’t figure out why I’ve never read them before. But I’m sure digging them.
So, that’s what I’ve been up to this week. How about you?
